SCHOOLS

  • Department of Education: Spring break has been extended through the week of March 30th. Students will return the week of April 7th. More Info
  • Hawaii Preparatory Academy: Face-to-face classes suspended. Classes to resume April 15th. More Info
  • University of Hawaii President David Lassner announced all classes will move online after spring break. This will be effective starting on Monday, March 23. All classes will now stay online through the end of the semester More Info
  • Big Island Interscholastic Federation-All league activities will be suspended from March 16, 2020 to April 13, 2020. More Info
  • University of Hawaii at Hilo athletics events cancelled through the end of the Spring Season. More Info

BUSINESSES

  • Spectrum is offering free broadband and WiFi access to homes with students. The offer only applies to new Spectrum customers who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription. Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and WiFi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps.   • Hawaiian Electric will close its payment centers, effective Wednesday 18th. More Info
  • Hawaiian Electric – Suspending service disconnections for 30 days for those financially challenged. More Info
  • Big Island Candies retail store will be closed March 16th through the 29th. More Info
  • Regal Theatres to close on Tuesday 17th till further notice. More Info
  • Macy’s is closing all of its stores nationwide, effective at the end of business Tuesday, March 17th through March 31. More Info
  • Hawaii Island Adult Care suspending service and closing at the end of the day on Wednesday, March 18th. More Info

  • Foodland – First hour of shopping on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday will be for seniors only [plus caregivers and an assisting family member] Seniors will receive 5% Senior Thursday discount on all three days. More Info

  • Waiakea Intermediate School Ukulele Band’s Anniversary dinner Hawaiian Plate Pick-Up – Saturday, March 21st from 4:30-6 p.m. Drive-through only, no parking and getting out of the car. More Info
  • Honoka`a Hongwanji Buddhist Temple’s “Feeding our Keiki and Kupuna” program will continue, but will only serve meals via “take-out.” Next feeding is on Friday, March 20th. More Info
